FAQ’S
The Picasso in Paris FAQ section provides essential information and ensures you have everything you need to make the most of your experience exploring Picasso’s Parisian period.
What is Picasso in Paris about?
Picasso in Paris is a new original American musical that dramatizes the life of Pablo Picasso during the Nazi occupation of France. Set against the backdrop of World War II, the story explores Picasso’s personal and artistic struggles in a time when freedom of expression, love, and life itself were under siege. It is a story of moral reckoning, resistance, and the power of art to confront tyranny.
Is this based on a true story?
Yes. The musical is inspired by true events and a real painting, rumored to have been created in secret by Picasso during the Occupation. While the painting’s DNA authenticity is still under research, it has sparked global interest—and its existence raises compelling questions about art, resistance, and historical memory.
Who is creating the show?
Picasso in Paris is being developed by a team of accomplished writers, composers, directors, producers, and designers with Broadway and literary credentials. The creative team is unified by a commitment to telling meaningful stories with emotional impact, artistic integrity, and cultural resonance.
What kind of music can I expect?
The score of Picasso in Paris blends dramatic orchestration with jazz, flamenco, wartime chanson, and emotionally rich ballads. The music reflects the complexity of Picasso’s world—its sensuality, its danger, and its drive for freedom.
What stage of development is the show in?
The Book is completed, as is the scoring and orchestration of the full music catalog. There have been two full Readings in NYC, and two concert presentations, one at the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas and the other at 54 Below in NYC. The Show is poised for a multi-week workshop, followed by a fully staged production at a regional theatre. From there we anticipate a tour at the West End in London, after which we will be ready for Broadway.
